Work has begun today (Monday 29 April) to improve access to the beach at Chichester Avenue, Hayling Island.

Following consultation with residents, Havant Borough Council secured funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to remove and replace the old boardwalk.

The new structure will be made from all-weather, composite materials to make it safer and more user-friendly all year round. It will be wider and have handrails, making access easier both for wheelchair users and other visitors with additional mobility needs. There will also be a generous seating area.

The project is due to take five weeks to complete.
