The last census took place on 21 March 2021 and the first set of results were released on Tuesday 28 June 2022. These results give an overview of our local population and how it has changed across the Borough of Havant in the past decade.

Results from Census 2021
Our borough has:
- 124,200 residents, a 3,500 person (2.9%) increase from 2011.
- 60,000 male residents and 64,200 female residents.
- 53,600 households, a 4.5% increase from 2011.
- 18.8% more residents aged 65+, 1.4% fewer residents aged 15-64 and 1.5% fewer children aged under 15 than in 2011.
- 16% of the borough are aged under-15s compared to 24% of the borough's population who are aged 65+.
- 41 residents aged 65+ for every 100 people aged 15-64. (It was 34 in 2011).
- 27 under-15s for every 100 people aged 15-64, the same as in 2011.
- 2,228 residents per square kilometre, which is equivalent to about 16 people living on a football pitch-sized area of land.
- the 15th most densely populated area of the South East’s 62 local authority areas.
ONS, which runs the census in England and Wales, has rounded Census 2021 results to the nearest hundred.
ONS will release further results from the 2021 census from October onwards. These will include data on ethnicity, housing, work and education. For the first time, results will also include information on armed forces veterans, sexual orientation and gender identity.
What is the census?
The census is a survey which takes place every 10 years and is used to produce various statistics about people and households throughout England and Wales. It is designed to help build a true picture of our society.
Data gathered during the census assists a wide range of organisations in their work. All information is anonymised and the actual census records are kept secure for 100 years.
