Notification of Cyber Attack on the Electoral Commission, 8 August 2023
Havant Borough Council was notified, along with other authorities, of a cyber attack on the Electoral Commission, which took place from August 2021 to October 2022.

In the national response from the Electoral Commission, re-assurances were provided that steps have been taken to secure systems against future attacks and improved protections have been implemented around personal data. This follows close work with external security experts and the National Cyber Security Centre.
Data Sharing
Registering to vote can be easily done online, you will need your date of birth and national insurance number and the whole process should take about 5 minutes.
To verify your identity, the data you provide will be processed by the Individual Electoral Registration Digital Service which is managed by the Cabinet Office.
As part of this process your data will be shared with the Department of Work and Pensions and your local Electoral Registration Office, this is covered in the register to vote privacy notice.
