Since 2 December, Havant borough (which includes Hayling Island, Emsworth, Leigh Park and Waterlooville) has been in Tier 2 – High Alert.
Eligible businesses required by law to close (pubs and bars that cannot operate as restaurants) can now apply for a Local Restrictions Support Grant (Tier 2) for closed businesses.
Businesses required by law to close from 00.01 on Saturday 19 December as the borough moves into Tier 3 - Very High Alert restrictions can apply now for a Local Restrictions Support Grant (Tier 3) for closed businesses.
‘Wet-led pubs’, pubs that predominantly serve alcohol rather than food, can also apply for a Christmas Support Payment of £1,000. This scheme is expected to close at the end of January, so eligible businesses should get their applications in as soon as possible.
Councillor Michael Wilson, Leader of Havant Borough Council, said:
"Tier 2 restrictions have mainly affected pubs and bars in what would traditionally be a busy time for office parties and family get-togethers.
“The announcement of the move to Tier 3 restrictions from Saturday will have come as a blow to many businesses that will now find that they are required by law to close.
“These grants won’t solve everything but will be a contribution to help keep these businesses that are at the heart of the borough going.
“The council is committed to supporting local businesses and is working hard to ensure that eligible businesses get these grants as quickly as possible.”
