Havant Borough Council has been awarded the gold PawPrints Award for their outstanding commitment to their stray animal services and animal activity licensing.

The PawPrints Award - established in 2008 by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) - recognises the works of local authorities and public bodies for going above and beyond for animal welfare services.

The awards are split into five categories: stray dog services, housing, contingency planning, animal activity licensing, and kennelling, with the levels being bronze, silver and gold.

Councillor Richard Brown, Cabinet Lead for Place, said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised by the RSPCA for the services we provide to protect and support the welfare of animals in our borough.

“Pets very much become part of our families, so it is important that they are always treated with kindness and compassion.

"Not only do we reunite stray dogs with their families, but we also grant licences to individual and businesses to carry out licensable activities that involve animals.”
