Serving as the 50th Mayor of Havant, Councillor Peter Wade was elected at today’s Annual Council Meeting and Mayor Making ceremony. He takes over from Councillor Rosy Raines, who has served as Mayor for the past year.

In his acceptance speech, Councillor Wade expressed his gratitude at being elected to the role of Mayor for the second time. He thanked outgoing Mayor Councillor Rosy Raines, fellow councillors for endorsing him, and thanked the residents of the Waterloo ward who elected him.

Councillor Wade said: "It is my second time as Mayor and it is tremendous to be appointed again and to have the faith of all those who elected me in. I look forward to working with my wife Janet Wade (Mayoress of Havant), the new councillors who have been elected and officers."

The new Mayor of Havant took the opportunity to thank Reverend Chris Spencer, who will act as Chaplain for this Mayoral year. He also announced that his main charity fundraising efforts for this Municipal Mayoral year will be Havant Men’s Shed.

Outgoing Mayor, Councillor Rosy Raines, wished Councillor Wade a successful Mayoral year and thanked her chosen charity (the RNLI), colleagues, family, friends, residents of Hayling East Ward, and everyone who has supported her during the past year.

Councillor Raines said: "It was a huge honour and a great pleasure to be able to represent the residents of the Havant borough.

"It is often hard work, but it is like no other experience I have ever had the honour of performing. To meet so many residents in the borough; to be the King's representative; to be able to make a difference to some, and hopefully make them smile too."
