The newly refurbished play area at Eastoke Corner, Hayling Island, is due to be officially opened this Saturday (25 May) in time for visitors to enjoy it during half-term.

Work began at the end of February to replace the old play equipment with a new fenced play area, multi-use games area and an exercise zone.

The park has three distinctive areas suitable for children, teenagers and adults as well as an exercise zone containing strength training units, plyometric equipment and a floor exercise area.

As part of its official opening on Saturday, local fitness experts will be on hand to demonstrate how to use the equipment and Proludic – the contractors who refurbished the park – will be giving out goody bags to the first 75 children to visit the park.

The park’s official opening event is between 12.30pm and 2pm, with Councillor Peter Wade, the Mayor of Havant, cutting the ribbon at 1pm.

Councillor Gillian Harris, Cabinet Lead for Regeneration and Communities, said: “This facility has been designed to have something for everyone to enjoy, because we know that places to play, exercise and spend time outdoors are really important to the physical and mental wellbeing of people in our borough.

“It is important for the council to invest in a wide range of amenities across the borough for people of all ages and abilities to use, and I hope this play park will provide fun and enjoyment to our community for many years to come.”

The project was funded by £200,000 from Havant Borough Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy.

A film crew from Proludic will be in attendance at Eastoke Corner on the day of its opening.
