Educational school talks about dog safety and responsible pet ownership

To help children understand how to keep their pets happy and healthy, the council’s Animal Welfare team is visiting local primary schools.

The Animal Welfare team held an educational assembly - focused on dog safety and responsible pet ownership - at Woodcroft Primary School on 24 September, and will also be visiting Padnell, Purbrook, Trosnant and Mill Rythe schools.

A toy dog - fitted with its own microchip - will be used and scanned to show children how microchipping works and highlight the importance of getting their pets microchipped.

Councillor Richard Brown, Cabinet Lead for Place, said: “Being a pet owner is a long-term commitment that can be equally rewarding and challenging. It is important to be aware of how to take proper care of your pet and make sure you are being a responsible owner.”

Havant Borough Council recently won a Gold PawPrints award from the RSPCA for their outstanding commitment to stray animal services and animal activity licensing, and continues to protect the health and welfare of animals across the borough.
