The new Leader and Cabinet of Havant Borough Council have been announced, following the results of the local borough elections held on Thursday 2 May.

With no overall political majority, a coalition has been formed between Labour, Liberal Democrats and Green Party Councillors. At the head of the coalition is Councillor Philip Munday (Labour, Havant St Faith's ward) as the Leader of Havant Borough Council, with Councillor Philippa Gray (Liberal Democrats, Bedhampton ward) as the Deputy Leader.

Representing a new direction for the council, the new coalition is actively finalising its new shared arrangements so they can focus on delivering for the borough, its residents and its businesses going forward.

Councillor Philip Munday - new Leader of the Council - said "I'm delighted and honoured to accept the post of Leader and look forward to working with my new colleagues within the coalition.

Looking back before looking forward, I'd like to personally thank the past contributions of previous councillors - no matter their political perspective - for their efforts to contribute towards a better borough.

These are exciting times, driven by the change residents wanted and voted for. By working together with all councillors, we will help address both the concerns raised by residents, whilst ensuring our regional and national relevancy with central government going forward.

I personally pledge that this coalition will be utterly open and transparent in its processes, its decisions, its successes and its challenges going forward, and the resulting engagement and debate this will support and nurture.

These are challenging times - locally, regionally and nationally - but I am resolute in ensuring the decisions made on behalf of local residents and businesses best suit their needs.

In the coming days, we - as a coalition - will formalise our shared priorities for future prosperity of the borough. We will all work hard to deliver what the borough deserves."
