The winners of a recent photo competition, run by Havant Borough Council, have been announced.
A competition aimed to highlight climate and biodiversity in the borough received more than 300 entries with 61 being shortlisted.
During a private viewing of the shortlisted entries the winners were announced for each category as:
- Nature and us – Dominic Joyeux with Followed home by hungry mallards
- Environmental guardians – Pam Fox with Gordon, the swan volunteer
- Hidden worlds – Mark Butland with The Valley
- Changing places– Richard Jones with Clinging on
- Wildlife wonders – As there were so many wonderful submissions for this category, two winners were chosen - Ian Mears with Brents and Melanie Randall with Highland cow beauty.
Every entry received in a special under 25’s category will also be displayed as part of a free-to-see exhibition. This category received entries from as young as seven years old up to 20 years old.
The competition was open to residents and visitors with the only limits being that the images had to have been taken within the Borough of Havant.
Cabinet Lead for Environment and Water Quality at Havant Borough Council, Councillor Grainne Rason, said: “We received an amazing number of entries and the level of photography was really impressive. The entries that have been shortlisted really captured the beauty of the borough.”
“I encourage everyone to come along and see the exhibition.”
The shortlisted photographs will now be on display in The Spring foyer area until Monday 19 May and can be viewed as part of a free exhibition.
The Climate Change and Biodiversity Strategy was approved by Cabinet in December 2024. For more information on these strategies, visit www.havant.gov.uk/climatechange.
