The latest annual rough sleeper snapshot survey recorded three people sleeping rough in the Borough of Havant on a single night.

The annual rough sleeper snapshot survey coordinated by central government encourages local authorities to do a rough sleeper count on a single night of the year, which goes into a government report to establish trends and make recommendations.

The most recent count took place on the night/early morning of 6 and 7 November 2024, in conjunction with partner agencies via an early morning street count and an intelligence gathering meeting.

Havant Borough Council’s Cabinet lead for Housing, Councillor Amy Redsull, said: “The annual figure for people sleeping rough in the borough is very low when compared with national and regional figures.

“Havant Borough Council continues to invest in measures to prevent homelessness and rough sleeping via its housing strategy. So far in 2024/25 the council’s Housing Advice Team has prevented 149 households from becoming homeless – this is an increase of 92% from the same period last year. Proof that early intervention and advice can prevent people from becoming homeless or having no other option than to sleep rough.

“With our continued partnership work with the charity Two Saints, I am confident there is significant provision for those who end up rough sleeping.  Their commitment to the outreach work they provide ensures each person sleeping rough is offered the support they need.”
